The Sound of Interpretation

Sumi-e artist all works: Frederica Marshall

I heard a cow give birth this morning. I heard a calf born. I know, it sounds strange, and it actually is quite an odd thing.

I was sitting in the back yard with my coffee, listening to the birds. Normally, birds are all that I hear at that time of the morning, but today, somewhere behind the acre of oak trees, I heard the noises.

First, a mans voice, impatient and loud. Then a dog bark. Then...

Cattle. The low, low, urgent, long, moaning of the mother.

It seemed as if she was asking for help, or peace.

Either way, I listened, even though it sounded horrifying or, beautiful.

I think that what I heard, I believe that what I heard,

defined transcendence.
